At the Janesville Innovation Center, April is packed with practical opportunities for small business owners, founders, and community members who want to stay connected to what is happening locally. From content marketing training and free business consulting to tenant growth and the next Business Readiness Program cohort, there is a lot moving inside JIC right now.
Whether you are building something new, looking for the right support, or simply want to know what is happening in the local business community, this month is a good time to get plugged in. Here is what is happening at JIC in April, what local businesses should know, and how to get involved.
Content Marketing Training: April 15 and 16
One of the biggest things happening this month is our content marketing training on April 15 and April 16.
This training is beginner-friendly and designed for small business owners who want to stop guessing and start posting with purpose. The goal is practical execution. Not theory. Not fluff. Just a better way to create content that fits the reality of running a business with limited time.
During the training, attendees will learn how to:
- clarify who they are actually talking to
- choose content themes that match what they sell
- turn everyday business knowledge into posts that build trust and generate leads
- create a simple weekly posting rhythm
- track what is resonating so they can do more of what works
We are also weaving in an important point that often gets missed. Marketing claims matter. Business owners need to make sure their promotional statements are truthful, clear, and not misleading, consistent with general truth-in-advertising principles. If a post performs well and later becomes part of an ad strategy, it needs to be built on a solid foundation from the start.
We will also touch on what I often call the “lazy ad” concept, meaning content that is strong enough to do double duty later if someone decides to put money behind it. That matters when time is limited and every piece of content needs to work harder.
The April 15 session will be held virtually. The April 16 session will be held in person over lunch and requires an RSVP.
If content creation has felt random, inconsistent, or disconnected from actual sales, this training is meant to fix that.
Free Friday Office Hours at JIC
Every Friday, the Janesville Innovation Center offers free business consulting office hours by appointment from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
These office hours are designed to give business owners and founders dedicated time to work through whatever is in front of them right now. That might mean talking through marketing, offers, systems, startup questions, website issues, growth plans, messaging, or next steps. Sometimes people need strategy. Sometimes they need clarity. Sometimes they just need a place to finally sort through the thing they have been putting off.
If you book time, you come into the Innovation Center and we work through your business together.
Jocelyn Kopac is available as a free consultant during these office hours, and that support is meant to be practical, direct, and useful. If you are trying to build, stabilize, or grow a business in Southern Wisconsin or the Rock County region, this is one of the easiest ways to get connected and get moving.
BRP Graduated Eight Founders, and the Next Cohort Starts in August
April also gives us a chance to look back at the momentum created through the Business Readiness Program.
This latest BRP cohort wrapped up with eight graduates completing the program. That matters, because BRP is built to help early-stage founders move from idea to first revenue with real structure, accountability, and in-person support. It is not just information. It is hands-on business building.
One of this cohort’s attendees, Cork n’ Clover, is now officially a tenant at the Janesville Innovation Center and is renting one of our manufacturing bays. That is exactly the kind of movement we want to see, where a founder builds momentum through the program and then continues growing inside the JIC community.
The next BRP cohort will be offered again at the Janesville Innovation Center starting August 3. Applications and interviews will take place in late June and early July.
If you are a founder who has been circling an idea, trying to get more serious, or looking for support that goes beyond generic advice, BRP is worth paying attention to.
Space Available at the Janesville Innovation Center
As businesses grow inside JIC, available space continues to change. Right now, the following spaces are still available:
- Suite 150, approximately 4,200 square feet
- Suite 130B, approximately 1,400 square feet
- Suite 100, approximately 240 square feet
- Suite 106, approximately 215 square feet
- Suite 116, approximately 170 square feet
We know the application process is thorough. That is intentional. We want to make sure we are bringing in and supporting small businesses that are ready to grow and that the space is the right fit for what they are building.
If you or someone you know is looking for office, flex, or manufacturing space in a business-focused environment, now is a good time to reach out, ask questions, and visit the building.
Tenant Highlights
A big part of what makes JIC worth paying attention to is the work our tenants are doing.
Trave Cleaning
Trave Cleaning is now accepting commercial clients and expanding the ways it supports businesses. Beyond cleaning services, the company is building CAD level cleaning design layouts that pinpoint where maintenance issues are likely to surface, positioning them as a pre-maintenance partner rather than a reactive one. That kind of forward-thinking approach is especially valuable for property owners and managers heading into a busy spring and summer season.
Asgaard Systems
Ben with Asgaard Systems has grown from having an office space at JIC to also adding manufacturing space. That kind of expansion is exactly what we want to see happen inside the building, where a business can increase capacity without having to leave the ecosystem that helped support its growth.
Cork n’ Clover
Cork n’ Clover is now a JIC tenant and has tables, chairs, and tents available for community event rentals. They are a great example of a business building real traction and creating practical ways to serve the broader community.
Post Shields
Post Shields is currently building out Post Shields XL, a version designed for decks. It is always exciting to see product-based businesses continue developing and refining their next offering, especially when that work is happening right here at JIC.
A Few Practical Tips for April
April is a good month to stop “meaning to get to it” and actually tighten a few things before spring and summer pick up. If you are a small business owner, founder, or service provider in Southern Wisconsin, here are a few smart moves to make this month.
Tighten up your content before busy season
If your marketing has been inconsistent, April is the time to fix it. Before events, summer demand, and spring activity ramp up, get clear on who you are talking to, what you want to be known for, and what kinds of posts actually support sales. Random posting is not a strategy. Businesses that create with more purpose now will be in a much better position heading into late spring and summer.
Book time to work on the business, not just in it
A lot of business owners stay stuck because they are constantly reacting. April is a good time to carve out actual working time to address the things that keep getting pushed off, whether that is your website, your offer, your pricing, your follow-up process, or your next growth step. Free Friday office hours at JIC are built for exactly that.
Start thinking now about your summer visibility
If you want people to find you, book you, or buy from you this summer, now is the time to get visible. That might mean updating your website, fixing your Google Business profile, refreshing your services, planning event appearances, or getting serious about content. Waiting until you are “less busy” usually means waiting too long.
Use AI better, not louder
AI can help small business owners save time, but only if it is being used to support real strategy. It works best when you give it real customer questions, real service details, real offers, and real context. If you are using AI to produce generic content faster, you are probably just creating average marketing more efficiently.
Networking and Getting Connected
JIC also maintains a fully functioning networking calendar, making it easier for people in the Southern Wisconsin and Rock County region to find opportunities to connect, learn, and build relationships. If you are trying to grow a business, one of the smartest things you can do is stop trying to do it in total isolation.
Sometimes the right room, conversation, or introduction changes more than another hour spent scrolling for ideas ever will.
Ways to Get Involved This Month
If you want to plug into what is happening at the Janesville Innovation Center, here are a few easy ways to start:
- attend the content marketing training on April 15 or April 16
- book a Friday office hours appointment with Jocelyn Kopac for free business consulting
- ask about available space and schedule a visit
- keep an eye on the next BRP cohort opening for August

If you have been looking for a way to get in the room, get support, or finally take the next step in your business, this is your invitation.
There is a lot happening at JIC right now, and that is exactly the point. This is a place where ideas turn into businesses, businesses turn into tenants, and support is meant to be used, not just talked about. April is full of ways to learn, connect, and move forward, and we would love to help you find the right starting point.
If you are ready to attend an event, visit the space, or book time to talk through your business, reach out and get connected.
